Version 4.0 is the first major upgrade since version 3.2, which was released in 2002. Some of the new and improved features in Version 4.0 are:

Because knowledge about segmental retaining wall (SRW) design has advanced since NCMA released its second edition of Design Manual for Segmental Retaining Walls in 2002, we've update the design manual. New research has lead to a better model for calculating SRW bulging. You can now model the actual failure mechanism using internal compound stability, which is a new feature in the 3rd edition. |
Friction that developes between the reinforced soil and SRW unit effectively transfer vertical load to the SRW unitsequivalent to the height of the wall above the unit - regardless of hinge height, so the hinge height concept has been deleted.
Also deleted in the 3rd edition is the servicibility requirements for connection strength between the geosynthetic reinforcement and SRW units. When following the construction guidelines provided in the 3rd edition, the connection between the SRW unit and geosynthetic reinforcement is tensioned during construction. This tensioning eliminates the servicibility issue for currently available combinations of SRW units and geosynthetic reinforcements.
